God knocked on SuperGal’s door back in 2006, on a very dark and scary night. He was there to let her know that it wasn’t SuperGal’s job to run this world. Oh, no.
He told her that was His territory.
But this SuperGal refused to hear Him. Oh, she liked Him just fine. But let Someone else handle her problems? Nah. She only trusted herself. So she folded her arms across her chest and dug in the heels on her cute pumps with bows. She would fix this horrible problem, this horribly sad and desperate situation in which she found herself. She would fix it alone, no matter the cost. It had always been her way.
“Well, then, go on with your bad self,” God told her. “You go on. I’ll be here. Waiting.” He wouldn’t force her to accept His help. It had to be her choice. That’s just the way He rolls.
It wasn’t long before SuperGal was stunned by the realization that she apparently wasn’t as big and bad as she had always believed. On that dark, life-altering night, SuperGal failed.
Spectacularly.
Finally, in the end, when there was nothing left but God, SuperGal learned that God was all she ever needed.
These days, every time I would follow my own super plan, the Holy Spirit takes me back to that night, sort of like the Ghost of Christmas Past in my favorite Dickens’ novel. And I’m reminded I’m not very big and bad at all.
Every day, in every situation, let God be first.
It sure beats flying in circles on your own, SuperGals!
