It Is Possible to Change
Thursday, January 22, 2015 by Lori Hynson

Hi SuperGal Friends,

Last week I posted a blog by my guest, Kathy Collard Miller. At that time, we told you that we were sponsoring a contest to win Kathy’s new book, Never Ever Be the Same: A New You Starts Today.

Sooooo...

The winner of Kathy’s new book, authored by herself and her husband, Larry Miller, is:

LORY SCHWARZ!!!!!

Lory, I will email you for your address. The book will be sent to you directly from the publisher.

Now, for everyone else, today we have an interview with Kathy and Larry. Spend a few moments to get to know this lovely couple. Enjoy!

Q: Kathy and Larry, tell us a little about yourselves.

A: Larry: I am a retired police lieutenant from Huntington Beach, California, and currently write, speak, and teach men’s Bible studies. I’ve written several books for men and also co-authored books on marriage with Kathy.

Kathy: Our most recent book is not on marriage but is a non-fiction book in the Christian Living category. This is my 50th published book and it’s a real thrill because I really wondered if I’d get from the 49th book to the 50th. Larry and I speak together on marriage and we each speak individually. And most important, we’ve been married 44 years. We were high school sweethearts and we’re still sweethearts!

Q: Tell my readers about this new book, Never Ever Be the Same: A New You Starts Today.

A: Larry: About seven years ago through some intensive counseling, we became aware of how our behavior wasn’t as purely motivated as we thought. Our reactions to other people were more selfish than we thought and our desire for ministry was more self-honoring than we thought. God then invited us to take a sabbatical from ministry and we spent many hours examining our hearts.

Kathy: We really wondered whether it would be God’s will for us to return to ministry. So we concentrated on drawing closer to God.

Q: What happened during that time?

A: Kathy: We discovered why we were more selfish and self-glorifying. We had developed what we began to call “self-protective sinful strategies” that left out God. We thought we were trusting Him but we found out we weren’t trusting Him as much as we were trusting ourselves. So we began to acknowledge those strategies and ask God to change us.

Larry: And he did. Of course, we didn’t become perfect. Then we’d be proud of ourselves! But we did find out “why we did what we did” and through God’s empowering, began to be more selfless and less self-centered.

Q: Is that what your new book is about?

A: Larry: Yes. We realized everyone suffers from those kinds of strategies. We share many stories of how God revealed our motives and changed us. We also share biblical principles and practical ideas for anyone to find out why they do what they do and how to trust God more.

Kathy: After God released us back to ministry, we knew He wanted us to write about what we’d learned in those four years. Now we’re again available to speak and we’re excited about the opportunities the Lord is opening for us.

Q: So are the changes still a-coming?

A: Larry: Oh, absolutely. We also realized that it’s a never ending journey in life to trust God more and more. Then we can give God the glory rather than arriving at perfection and thinking we don’t need God anymore. Kathy Collard Miller is the author of 50 books and has spoken in 31 states and 8 foreign countries. Kathy and her husband, Larry, have been married 44 years and he is a retired police lieutenant who also speaks and writes. Larry and Kathy speak often together and individually on a variety of topics. They live in Southern California, and have two grown children and one grandson. Visit them at www.LarryAndKathy.com and www.KathyCollardMiller.com.

Never Ever Be the Same: A New You Starts Today (Leafwood Publishers) offers Christians hope that they can change their destructive patterns of behavior through identifying their sinful self-protective strategies and then being empowered to trust God instead. Their book includes biblical principles, insightful stories, and helpful instruction. It also provides discussion questions that can be used by individuals or groups.

Never Ever Be the Same is available at your local Christian bookstore and in both print and digital versions at:
